Director & Producer
Eapen's production experience began at Ithaca College. As an undergraduate he produced and sang the solo in Mozart's Requiem, and the performance became the highest attended show of that year.
When Eapen and his family relocated to Colorado in 2014, he continued his singing career, performing across the country. When he was home it was determined that he "needed a hobby". He met fellow Ithaca Alum, Mallory Bernstein, and producer Michael Bevers, and together they started Denver Art Song Project. What began as their first album, "A Single Step- Songs of Beethoven and Donaundy" became a boutique performing group. With over 30 singers participating in concerts across Colorado, the group expanded to create online videos and further albums.
During this time of experimentation, Eapen met Thomas Wilson, the conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs. After collaborating on a performance of The Mikado (Opera Theatre of the Rockies) and Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, they created "Voices of the African Diaspora" and "Enough! Voices Against Abuse." These orchestral concerts included Eapen's opera production and directorial debut with To Hell and Back by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer.
As it turns out, this work was vital to Eapen's COVID-19 experience. Denver Art Song Project transformed into Art Song Colorado and Eapen was lucky to have created art during those dark days.
Now an in-demand producer in Colorado, Eapen stepped in as Interim Executive Director for Opera Theatre of the Rockies for their 25th Anniversary Season. He produced Blind Injustice, a double header of Gallantry (director) and Camille Claudel: Into the Fire and the 25th Anniversary Gala Concert.
Eapen has worked closely with Jacob Pope, the Executive Director of Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, to produce Glory Denied, a free performance at the Air Force Academy that reached 1,000 attendees, 500 of which were cadets and military staff. This three way collaboration between Art Song Colorado, Chamber Orchestra of the Springs and Opera Theatre of the Rockies has become the Opera 2030 Initiative, a 5-year collaboration to bring newer operas to the Pikes Peak Region. Eapen co-produced and directed, All about Love, a triptych of short operas starring Stephanie Ann Ball in all the soprano roles. He created a new English translation of La voix Humaine alongside The Telephone and closing with A Hand of Bridge.
Eapen now works as a casting and production consultant in addition to directing Art Song Colorado and Opera 2030 production.
